I gotta be honest, when I was first watching this show, I was interested but it was never one of my favorite animes. But when they killed of Daichi like that, so unexpectedly, I thought the author did a great job showing the perils of any team sport if the team is not coordinated and prepared. The funeral scene that's coming too, tore my heart apart. Helped to really cement this show as one of my favorites, really made me understand it's place in Shonen Jump

I remember when I first started watching haikyu I found out about this deadchi meme but back then I didnt know it was a meme. I was still on the first season and I saw this tweet saying something like:"yall daichi dying was the saddest scene in all of anime" or whatnot and I actually took it seriously because I would always get spoiled about character deaths and haikyuu was my first sports anime. So of course I get pissed and sad and I continued to watch haikyu waiting for that scene to happen, thinking "oh he probably got into a car accident or something." I finally got to this episode and I was smh so hard lol
