Short Blades Symposium 2018: Ferd Highlights

Some quick cuts (no pun intended) of my participation in the recent Short Blades Symposium, hosted by The Citadel Combat Arena in Portland, OR. I fought using the ginunting and an African crescent sword called a shotel.

The Short blades symposium is a cross-cultural blade fighting tournament that include short sword combat, knife fighting, and tatami mat cutting competitions. Participants from martial backgrounds such as Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), and Historical African Martial Arts (HAMA)

Man iv been saying hema and fma need to get together this is awsome i have training in Toyama Ryu Iaido i learned alot from sparing hema guys at the time hema was new we had no treaties to look into so i used my kumitachi (two man kata) and we worked out some long sword drills that wer similar to what i do in Iaido and thay helped me figure how to apply what i know to a sparing situation it was a win win. Keep it up guys love youre stuff

Guro Ferd can you do a Video Analysis on what have you learned during those sparring sessions with HEMA, European Martial Artists
