Biden welcomes Japanese PM Kishida to the White House | VOA News

President Joe Biden has welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to the White House.

From cherry trees to collective deterrence, the United States and Japan celebrate their decades-long alliance Wednesday as President Joe Biden hosts Prime Minister Kishida Fumio at the White House for an official visit and state dinner.

Eager to showcase the robustness of U.S.-Japan ties, the leaders will announce new initiatives on technology and defense, including an upgrade of allied command-and-control arrangements for American and Japanese forces, civic space exploration to the moon, and research partnerships on AI, quantum, semiconductors, and clean energy.

In his welcome remarks, Biden called Kishida a “visionary and courageous leader” for the steps Kishida took to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion.
