Ropa Vieja is one of my absolute favorite dishes in the universe so not surprised this is leading the pack! There was a restaurant near me that did authentic Cuban cuisine and they also served it with some double fried plantains and that bite with the stew, beans, rice and plantains? IT WAS HEAVEN. I miss that place SO MUCH.

While I appreciate that you placed this dish so highly, as a Cuban who has had this dish many times at my grandmother's house, one small change. We don't use crushed tomatoes, we use tomato sauce along with a beef broth. Yes to the wine, although cooking wine isn't uncommon in most Cuban kitchens.

Ropa Vieja is Spanish for "old clothes" because this is stewed until it you can shred it with a fork. (Think of the old way of doing laundry)
