Y'all know the right way to do this, right?
Sit down one afternoon and make 'perfect' fitting pipes in all the common sizes in your shop.
Then use each of these specimens to make templates!
Got a 5cm pipe? Use the lay-out template!
The lay-out can be tedious, so only do it once!

If you watch for the welded seam in the pipe & use that as either your top center or your bottom center, you just saved yourself a lot of alignment stuff when cutting a mouth on the other end. The seam becomes your mark.
