Paddy did such a remarkable job of bringing a dull & generic character from the books and giving him this colourful and admirable ora about him.

That the scene with the crown falling off and being put back on by Daemon came about through pure happenstance really made their relationship different, and that fight a lot more sad. Paddy was one of the best things about HoTD, what a fantastic portrayal.

I think Daemon might have been a fine Hand, just in a different way than we've seen before in the shows. Under Aerys and Robert, the Hand was basically the ruler. Otto also aspired to rule in Viserys' stead, rather than on his behalf. But a Hand can also be interpreted differently. A hand reaches out, performs tasks, makes a fist. Daemon is a loose cannon, but had the brothers managed their relationship better (removing Otto's constant poison would have been a start), they could have made a fantastic team; a benevolent king backed by relentless strength. Love and fear combined in their subjects
