Very interesting experience to Spar with Taekwondo!

I do ITF too, our dude ran out of gas, and the boxer was getting better at reading the kicks, so, strong start with a steady decline, respect to him though, he's worked hard. This is what generally happens when ITF schools have their students only fight each other and not other styles.

7th degree black belt in Taekwondo and hopkido master here. This is the reason I have been practicing boxing and ground fight with Taekwondo. Just alike a soldier, you need air, ground, and sea support to win the war. Also in this fight, boxer looks taller and stronger than Taekwondo guy here.

It seems people didn't really notice that early on, the ITF dude was actually landing more than the boxer. Eventually he gassed out, but that's the price you pay for all that TKD movement. Takes energy.

After years of taekwondo I started savate (french kickboxing). At the beginning I was very comfortable at kicking as you can expect from a taekwondo guy, I quickly learnt the savate kicks and immediately liked them, but I had zero boxing skills.
During my first sparrings I got demolished because I had no guard, my hands were always too low. All my opponents had to do was closing the distance and punching me in the face. I remember litteraly spitting blood after my first hard sparring.
So I learnt how to box and spent hours doing shadow boxing in my room. Then I could combine punches with my kicks and I became effective. I even heard from opponents : "dude your kicks are scary" which I took as big compliment 😁

while the TKD guy lost, I think he performed quite well and was landing a lot of techniques at low levels of power against a larger, more athletic opponent. I don't think this video comes off bad at all for TKD, or for the fighter.

Love the wave of Taekwondo vids. It helps me on knowing what NOT to do when sparring other styles

Idk why you guys are acting like the boxer is dominating. The boxer was getting tagged not just with kicks but punches too. It looked pretty evenly matched to me although I agree the TKD guy looked gassed at the end. Glad you mention savate though, you absolutely can feint with kicks, I do it all the time.

This is light respectful sparring that picked up a bit towards the end. Neither guy was really trying to hurt the other, as it should be in sparring. If you gave the first round to the boxer, you could be one of these terrible UFC gudges. TKD was throwing some good counter hooks the entire time. Hands down improves your balance (surfer/skateboarding) and makes it harder for the opponent to see the punches coming. There are guys fighting in the UFC right now that use a hands down style. Id like to see one of these thats more serious and perhaps without such a massive height discrepancy.

Definitely a fun bit of playful sparring here. Definitely not something I'd judge style effectiveness with, but there's lots to learn from it. I used to get in trouble for adapting my sidekick into a leg kick in TKD. I stopped doing it in class, but always kept it in my brain for real life when I wanted distance from a puncher. That backward leaning of the head he's doing would be a lot more effective if he did that. Especially if they're coming in strong and you kick their kneecap.

Kudos to both fighters. I was impressed by TKD guy's cardio. I know he was gassed after 2.5 rounds, but if I were throwing all those kicks I'd be totally gassed after round 1.

It's true, though...TKD guy trained to win single points and then to have the fight split up so judges could count the score. As a result, he never followed up on a successful hit, and he tended to give up and become a punching bag after receiving a clean hit. I think he'd be pretty awesome with a year's training in a more practical style.

in the US TKD is the most commercial martial art. Basically its a scam to make money. Overall probably the weakest style next to Tia chi and aikido

宇飛also sparred with this dojo
2:22, 6:02 Max Pan's signature move
At the debrief of the match, the ITF master said ITF kicks have to aim higher than the bell. Also, 3 minutes a round for him is tough, unlike boxing, in this ITF dojo, people spar with two 2 minutes rounds.

Looks like they both had fun with some touch sparring. They both have great control. Those ITF TKD kicks and boxer's punches did as much damage as they were intended to.

Is it me or the boxer has a big height, weight and reach advantage?

I think it should really be noted that this is a sparring match and not a fight. That boxer was reeeally pulling his punches, and multiple times stopped attacking when he realized the TKD guy couldn't defend himself. I mean no shade to the TKD guy, but in a fight, the TKD guy would have been knocked out in the first round

TKD guy was pretty good tbh, this was also clearly a sparring session, it wouldn't have been a one sided fight, it would have been pretty messy cuz both ate a lot of shots, but the TKD did lose the later rounds tho, he was pretty tired.

I think the TKD guy was actually pretty damn good. Decent hands, filled the void between them with pressure, kicks were solid, and while I think he relied too much on head movement and swaying when he maybe doesn’t have a strong foundation in those skills, considering that the Boxer had reach in boxing range, TKD was definitely holding his own

Imagine if the kwonner knew how to box, he would have an awesome kickboxing style.

The punches are more easy, fast and powerful than kicks in less training time. That is the reason why Muay thai fighters and kickboxers learn boxing. Fighting supported on two feet is always better than on one foot.
