This hit me on a much deeper level than just gardening. The garden echoes life as always. Whenever a loved one has died, “I thought I had more time.” Whenever I’ve been faced with a cancer diagnosis. “I thought I had more time.” Whenever I realized how much older I’ve gotten, “I thought I had more time.” Life lessons in the garden.

Gotta admit though, I swoon over the beauty of frost covered plants. Nature’s glitter.

Yes, the animals always get their winter coat by the time it's needed. And I cackled outloud thinking to myself....I'm sure glad we as humans don't get super hairy before a frost hahahaha

"The time frost snuck up on me" that is a good title for a poem or a book chapter.

Absolutely incredible that Columbia, SC had a first frost before Denver, CO where I live. We've only had one low temp below 40 yet this season which is unheard of. And frost isn't even in the forecast for the next 10 days. Just goes to show how different each season can be!

There's something so real about seeing you be totally caught off guard by a freeze, even in your area. I feel bad for you, but I'm also like "yes! she's a real gardener."

I'm sorry the frost snuck up on you, but what a magical video...really beautiful.

Maybe those of us in this region should call this the year of getting caught off guard. I had a different phrase in mind but it wasn’t suitable for everyone 😂. Lots of learning right there with y’all this year holy moly.

Loved the messages, your knowledge on how plants react to frost on a cellular level was interesting and educational. Love your videos; So inspirational. Ooh, loving that jacket too, stay warm.

I just adore your channel! The way you and your husband work so well and compliment each other. The way your in shock but still keeping such a positive energy about you. I’m laying in bed with my first cold of the season and your channel brings me so much joy and comfort.

Same, only for me it is 6 inches of snow on the ground. It is melting today and it is a good drink for the soil since it is not frozen yet. Time to hussel up and put the yard to bed for thr winter.

Thank you for the reminder to pay attention to my micro climates. I live in a city and my backyard is even different from the front.. Time to get to those last garden tasks as fall kicks in!

1st frost is so beautiful. Don’t mourn it, celebrate the frost. Time to put Mother Earth to bed. Nature has, so should we.🎉

Thank you for sharing your wonderful life. We got down to 34° last night here in So. Idaho. I covered the potatoes so I could harvest them today. Garlic is going in the ground today. I have a ton of green tomatoes I'm hoping to ripen in the house. My 8yo Mainecoon has put his winter coat on so he's very toasty. Bless you and your family.

I have sprayed (using a water bottle) the leaves of my "frosted" plants before the sun hit them and they had no damage.

If you water just B4 a frost the layer of water freezes 1st and insulates the plants. It's how they protect oranges in Northern Florida during frosts.

Me too!! All my dahlias are toast from just four hours of 30-32 degrees. I love to let them open up in the fall all the way so my bees can enjoy them. And now for the next few weeks.. lovely 40-70’s. No dahlia patch…..

We were a month late, you were a month early, yet I got almost the same temperature on the same night. Although I was KIND OF expecting there'd be a frost soon, we were predicted to have about 38 here, so I honestly had the same reaction when I came out to black basil. Kind of a bummer surprise, but I thought of you saying how you spend time in your garden saying goodby. I did that, too, and didn't feel so sad. Thank you, Jess. I'm glad you have some brassicas, I still have kale and swiss chard, a few other little things. Bless you, girl!🌻💚
