Here's the infamous Astro Boy game made by Sonic Team for PS2.
I went into this expecting a barely functional mess based on horror stories I heard all over the internet. What I did find was a fun and charming if somewhat janky game. The graphics are fitting to the artstyle, music is catchy. The gameplay is also fun with combat making decent use of flying. The only place that leaves to be desired is stage design which doesn't seem to be aware of the fact you can fly endlessly. Also the lock on is pretty awful with no option to swap targets other than letting go and targeting again.
But yeah I don't really understand why this game is considered to be so awful, it's at least above average for the times.

The perfect way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2003 anime! The cast was really great, especially Candi Milo (Astro), Wally Wingert (Dr O'Shay and Blue Knight), Greg Cipes (Atlas) and Dorian Harewood (Dr. Tenma and Shadow)!

Sonic Team's PS2 game Astro Boy: Tetsuwan Atom, based on the 2003 anime series of the same name. It reeks of wasted potential and serves as a harbinger for the developer's worse output in the years to come. Above all else, it's no match for Treasure's GBA title Astro Boy: Omega Factor.

Astro Boy is such a famous character as he has had a lot of AMAZING content such as a 2003 anime series and a computer-animated movie!

I really loved this game. I had a lot of fond memories finding all the hidden secrets as you explored. I really want to play it again someday.

(52:58) The Story of Dr. Tenma and his Twisted Dream about creating the King of Robots.
*Dr O’shay (Elefun):* Astro, What’s wrong? Is something bothering you? Are you thinking about what Tenma said?
*Astro:* Yes, Doctor. I’m starting to think that is where I came from.
*Dr. O’shay (Elefun):* Very well. I will explain everything to you now.
(2:04:19) The life cycle of Humans & Robots living together in peace.

Many people will attribute this game to SONICTEAM, which is technically true, but there's more to the story.

It actually started out being made by United Game Artists (developers of Space Channel 5 and Rez), but they were merged with SONICTEAM about half a year before this game released. Many developers leave SEGA completely before release or not long after.

I counted 17 developers who stuck with SONICTEAM in Japan and 4 who moved to America to join SEGA Studio USA (previously SONICTEAM USA). A couple also joined the Phantasy Star Universe team that split off from SONICTEAM. I think the only person at pre-UGA SONICTEAM who joined the project was character animator Michihiro Sato (worked on Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg), although there's some people whose first game was Astro Boy, so who knows where they were located before that went down.

53:21 To think this scene was kept in the English version of this game; it was cut in the dub of the actual show.

I’m surprised that Sonic Team themselves were involved with this game

1 of my favorite games growing up. does ps2 have loading issues or worse problems if you try to get it to 1080p though adapters i imagine it will make more work for the ps2 and will most likely brake it faster does anyone have experience
