Can the power of the Alienware 17 make up for how darn heavy it is?

You know what else is pretty heavy ?...

Metals get heavier the further you go down the periodic table. The larger the number they have on the bottom of their box, the heavier and more dense. Gold and mercury are pretty heavy metals, though pure gold shouldn't be harmful in any way. Platnium, and Iridium are in that general area too.

We use lead for bullets because it is one of the heaviest. However, there is one metal slightly better and that is the next one on the periodic table... Bismuth. (yes, as in pepto bismol).

You can buy shotgun shells that have bismuth and that is a good thing. Lead shot can be eaten by birds (ducks in particular) and bismuth isn't toxic like lead. Using non lead shot is in your own best interest because you may end up eating that dissolved lead yourself if you keep putting lead into the environment where ducks live.

Then comes the ultimate heavy metal of them all (that is usable and reasonably harmless). Uranium. The extremely VAST majority of naturally occuring Uranium is U-238. This is so poorly radioactive that it takes something like 4+ billion years to go through a single half life. My friend has some in his drawer at work.

We use spent uranium (that is the waste from enriched uranium) to make really tough, dense, hard hitting bullets (think tank piercing). Many feel this is a bit of a poor decision due to the slight radioactivity of the uranium, but I would argue that lead is more likely to react and make an environmental hazard.

I would say that if you are going to bash spent uranium as a bullet material, then bismuth bullets are a reasonable alternative.

Let's all take a moment to realize that the numpad test was just typing a bunch of 69's

Bigger is not necessary, Linus is trying to tell us something. #LinusSexTips

I get the Alienware hate for desktops, but their laptops aren't too bad. The build quality and design is a lot more refined than other brands, even if they don't exactly offer a good price/performance ratio.

From someone who has one of these, given your amplier port you only need a 1060 (keeps the laptop super cool therefore making it last much longer) FHD is good enough given the size of the screen (meaning 4k is all that worth it unless you hardcore edit photos zooming way into them, the speakers are great, surround sound is unreal, everyone would love more bass but coming from an xps l502x (probably the best laptop speakers of all time) this is really good. IPS>TN unless 120hz is that important to you but other than that ips is much better picture quality even if this TN is better than normal TN. Also 7700 processor is more than enough. I would suggest at least 16 gigs ram though although you could always add yourself if yours came with 8 gigs. SSD you can also add yourself if you don't get a good deal. That's my opinion.

really like the editing style here. Perfect speed to follow, unlike other videos where too much time is spent on simple things to understand.

I’ve had it coming on 8 years with a GTX 1070 in it and it gets the job done for me and surprisingly runs games well even still.

This popped up in my feed while waiting for my Alienware M18 to be delivered. Crazy to see how far we have come.

Alienware has become more competetive in the recent years, still I think Dell is going too hard for the gamer-target-group.

I have it and i love it.
Where I live (Austria) it was actually the cheapest option to get a 1080 in a laptop and because i really wanted a badass laptop i got the AW17 R4(yep i know i could've just built a desktop pc but i'm a student, i travel a lot between two homes and visit a lot of friends).
I oc'd mine to 4, 2GHz (with 85mV undervolt) and with turbofan enabled it actually is able to keep up the clockspeed 100% of the time (with the rear lifted up about 2cm).

It truly is heavy though.

Well...The USB-C on the 12-inch MacBook is even lonelier... At least the Alienware had a fan beside it... The MacBook has nothing

6:08 It has 3 M.2 slots, it’s written on the plastic: SSD-1(small M.2, between SSD-2 and the fan), SSD-2, SSD-3

I bought this laptop about 6 months ago. I went for the 1070 config with a 7700hq, 16 gigs of ram, 128 gigs SSD and 1tb hard drive. I got it at best buy for $1750 after tax and I'm loving it. Also, when I turn on battery saver I can get over 6 hours on a full charge, and with the 1070 it stays really quiet. 10/10 recommend.
