Ever since those infernal virtual pets, and quite possibly before, people have had this _bizarre_ idea of not only doing nothing to discourage people from feeling like they "should" engage with a program that in no way actually appreciates their efforts... but straight-up pressuring and guilt-tripping them to do so. "Ooh, this is AI stuff! It's a virtual being! It's REAL!" No it's fucking not, though admittedly we may be approaching the point where actual sentient artificial entities become possible. But in the meantime, less guilt from inanimate non-sentient objects, yeah?
