Special thanks to Mrs. Deanna Riccardo for recording and producing this video at Smalley Elementary School.

On March 2, schools throughout the United States and our district celebrated National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day. This year was the 18th annual celebration of this day, which is a celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

The National Education Association (NEA) projected that more than 45 million readers, both young and old, picked up a book and read it on March 2. The National Education Association is the nation's largest professional employee organization, representing 3.2 million elementary and secondary teachers, college faculty, school administrators, education support professionals, retired educators and students preparing to become teachers.

Throughout our district, schools were joined by Central Office administrators, high school teachers/staff, city officials, television personalities and more! At Gaffney Elementary School, students were treated to guests throughout the day, including three different service/therapy dogs.

At Smalley Academy, students heard from Central Office administration, community members, CCSU students and others who took time out of their day. Special thanks to Mrs. Deanna Riccardo for sending the pictures our way.

At the Smalley Kindergarten at Roosevelt campus, students heard staff members from New Britain High School and the Satellite Careers Academy. Thank you to Ms. Meg Shea, Assistant Principal, for sending pictures from their day!

The kids had a blast throughout the district and we always look forward to this annual event!
