hi from Indonesia. i teach painting to kids on my own for only half a year now. thank you so much for your insights i'm so glad to find this video. i learnt a lot and kind of relieved that i'm moving to the right direction of teaching. especially the step by step part for elementary schoolers bc most of my students are around that age. despite having the skill to draw and paint, but teaching it is another skill to master, especially to kids. I just realised that the the evolution of a person's art skills, is almost the same as the evolution of world art history itself! 1-6: primitive art, 7-10: ancient civilizations art, 11-18: renaissance, traditional art, 16-adult: modern art 🤯

My art teacher Ms.Wolf from Elementary taught how to make a stencil and them create a smear effect with oil pastels. If I was an art teacher I would teach how to paint a tree with Q-tips or common swabs like in Jay Lee Painting videos. I did it with my nephew. Creating a fictional map with symbols is on I did as a kid. For older students I like the idea of teaching composition within a comic panel.

I'm working as a long-term art substitute teacher in an elementary school. One question I get regularly is "can I start over; can I get another piece of paper." Do art teachers let students start over if they don't like their drawing, for example, or do they tell the students instead to make the mistake onto a "happy accident?" Thank you.
