Morph Text From Regular to Bold - Adobe After Effects tutorial

Morph your text shapes from regular weight to bold, black, italics, whatever. Simple steps and you can repeat and solve most problems that might come up.

BUT it's not a perfect solution and you MAY have to do manual fixing. If you do have to fix it manually work backwards and try not to cry. The not crying is the most important because I have no tolerance for frustrated people having been one myself my whole life... it frustrates me!

I said you can animate it manually. Go nuts with that if you like. But usually you just need to identify which point is floating and make that the first vertex to control it.

No, but then my threshold for "strange" is pretty high... Vertex confusion happens when there are more, fewer, or differently ordered points between the keyframes. It can happen that they are the same number and in the same order and all is well.

hey pal. if you change the "position" of the camera you ARE moving it. And you should leave it alone. A 3d camera track or solve is making a camera that moves and behaves like the camera in the footage you are solving. So if you, a person, change the position the computer as decided it should be at, it will seem to move. Does that clear it up or do I misunderstand your situation?

I have problems with the letter U, all other letter worked out fine when I set the first vertex but not the U, the points go all over the place. any suggesting?

i am just moving the text to put it at the point and place in the video track i want it so what i understand is your saying i am also moving the camera? i appreciate your help!

As always I learn multi-things from your tutorials. I think a faster way of copying the path key frames accurately from the bold to the final key frame of the normal is to stop watch the bold paths to create key frames, do the uu, u to close and reopen only the keyed property, then Shift click each one in a specific order, copy and in the normal layer shift click in the same order and paste. This would be especially helpful if the word was longer and had many paths.

What I mean is that When I set the first vertex half of the nodes move just fine but the other half goes wacky, can I set more than one vertex? if not, you mention I can set them manually, how do I do that?

1. does your avi actually have audio to hear encoded into it? and 2. is there waveform information on the audio track? or no audio track? Or what's the deal there?

I'm not seeing any success with setting the first vertex. When I go between the two keyframes on my B, the vertices for the outside of the B morph into the interior points for the top 'hole' of the B. So, setting the first vertices has no effect. Any ideas?

Thanks man! I tried the same technique for transition between regular to reverse italics and then italics. It worked like a charm of course!!

Yeah that's not really working for the letter U :/ I set the first vertex just like you showed, and it worked well with all other letter except for that one, that one the points just go all over the place. I am using a commercial type font "Gotham Pro"

You can also right click the vertex then hit "mask and vertex" > "set first vertex" so you don't have to move you mouse ALL THE WAY (i'm lazy) to the top of the screen.
