I also did a review on this one! :D

I felt the same about Alex. He is such an interesting character and I was so sickened at myself at times for feeling for him because he really did some disgusting shit!

Uh...there is that issue of responsibility and free will at play. Kind of a major deal for Burgess, a reverent Catholic. That is, how can a person be good if he cannot choose to do evil? That’s what Alex was reduced to in the end...

Loved this book too! Your edition is really cute. Funny more people haven't spoken about this one. Very nice review! I wish I would have read it before I saw the movie. I think I would have enjoyed it more going into it blindly. Oh well the main thing is that I enjoyed it. Will have to reread it. It's been a while.

Considering buying this when I ran into a slight problem. There's the original edition and then there is the restored text edition....which one should I buy. The restored text edition is $24 dollars on Google Play, but they both currently equal out at which is better???

Thank god you gave it a second chance after picking it up that first time! One of my favourite books. I agree with what you said about finding Alex charming. Burgess is very clever in the techniques he uses to disarm the reader; the fact that the kids drink milk instead of alcohol, which in a way, juvenilises them. The way that they talk, Alex in particular, who even incorporates some Shakespearean imagery into his language, is used to take the reader out of the story and desensitise them to the things that the characters do, similar to how after listening to Patrick Bateman go on and on about eighties music and what everyone is wearing you become almost numb by the time he has moved on to how he tortures hookers.

Have you seen the film?
It's filmed in 1971, directed by Stanley Kubrick and was banned in the U.K. from 1972 to 1999.
If you've seen it, I'd like to hear your review on the movie, was is better or worse than the book.
I've read the book after the movie.

Have you ever read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley? If not you really should.

Hi thanks for the review, I've been thinking of reading this next when I switch to classic lit. What did you get out of the book though, you mentioned the character was intriguing, and I liked that you spoke to having to struggle yet persist when reading it, but what was interesting about the book that has stayed with you?
