Michigan Medicine Mixed Reality Telerounding Pilot

Michigan Medicine has launched the Medical and Surgical Extended Reality Initiative that has grown to include over 50 faculty, residents and medical students from 12 U-M clinical departments at the medical campus as well as collaborations with the School of Nursing, the School of Engineering, and the Center for Academic Innovation.

With the COVID pandemic fundamentally disrupting the way medicine is taught in this country, Michigan leaders sought to bring new ways of re-imaging the medical learning environment. Using Microsoft Hololens2, students and physicians are pioneering new ways to accomplish patient rounding, trainee simulation, anatomical education, operating room procedures, and collaborate with experts globally, in partnership with the Imperial College of London.
