Interieur I, by Helmut Lachenmann

One of the first major works for solo percussion, Interieur I is an exploration of sound and timbre. In what Lachenmann calls a musique concrete instrumental aesthetic, he captures nuanced and novel combinations of instruments in a way that feels far ahead of his time. The several extended techniques he uses throughout the work help capture the character of early electronic music, as well as further his ideas of exploring the interior of a sound. Performed here as part of my master's recital at Juilliard.
