Why I am no longer freelance writing on Fiverr

After nearly a decade freelance writing off Fiverr, I have stepped away indefinitely for a number of reasons. Most importantly, I have more to offer the world, which is why I am overseeing the building of a farm and education center in Upstate New York.

Please watch this video in its entirety, where I go over why BEGINNER freelancers should STILL be using Fiverr. Remember, I did this for nearly 9-years - if you are only 1 or 2 years into the journey, then you should absolutely be on Fiverr sourcing clients.

This is a perfect transition for the videos I have coming your way, talking more about land acquisition, making money off hobby farming, working with the Amish on my barn, and the future of housing: hint hint, it's living in a multi-purpose barn!

I LOVE HOW FLEXIBLE YOU ARE you shift ahead of the curve....I totally get it. Fiverr didnt' work well for me, even though it got me a MAGAZINE MENTION but I still didnt' blow up. I love that you saw an opportunity- with the Amish and are gonna fill it. YOU ARE A TRUE ENTREPRENEUR!

Way to go, Alexandra! A very smart move. I've been on Fiverr since 2015, TRS, Fiverr Pro, and I'm leaving as well, for all of the reasons you just mentioned. Also, they recently did another of their complex "updates" that has effectively killed my income. Last straw, it was time.

I'm a long-standing, top-rated, five-star content writer on Fiverr with perfect metrics. It was my primary income stream for about five years and demand far exceeded my capacity. But, at least in my little corner of the platform, the market seemed to go into free fall after the release of GPT4. Now, no matter how I set my pricing, I am seeing abysmal impressions and only returning clients - the ones who still want a human writer. I feel pretty pessimistic about the impact this will have on the digital landscape in the long run.

Real talk. I never had seen success with any platform. Not Fiverr, Upwork, Contra, or any of them. I built everything from networking and through another selling space entirely. Some people need training wheels while others figured out how to ride a bike without any of them.

The market is in a weird flux right now, though. This is regardless of freelancer platforms. But the key should be diversifying your income right now.

You speak the truth. I am still a newbie and for some procrastinated reasons, I disappeared from Fiverr for a year and now I am back, it makes me feel like, might as well I had stayed isolated. I think I am going to give Upwork a shot. I just need to accept change is okay.

Perfect explanation of where I am now. Although I still get orders from Fiverr they don’t pay as well as my private clients (even before the 20% tip!) plus the new rating system is messed up.

I think we should not rely on freelance market places only.... brand yourself through your social media and portfolio website

This was an excellent video and really needed for where I currently am in my freelancing journey, three years in and as a new mum. Great, honest advice as always, Alex!

Love it Alex! Such a great perspective! Fiverr has definitely changed and alot of categories, like writing and even voiceovers (that I was mainly doing for a long time) have either become too saturated or taken over by AI. Its a new landscape for sure, but I have noticed bigger clients coming onto the platform lately (at least for me and alot of my students), but it's not the same as it was a couple years ago. Love seeing the progress on your barn, looks amazing!!!

YAY YOU! I really enjoy learning from you about Fiverr. I'm still on there and rarely get a gig from it. I'm enjoying your farm adventures and excited to watch you succeed!

7 years on Fiverr and I didn't go on vacation mode once... But I did take nice vacations... There are ways around it... But I definitely want to take my expertise off of Fiverr. I am a fashion designer with real industry experience for 15 years, only in freelance the last 7 years. I have soooo much knowledge that could make so much more money off of Fiverr... I see other fashion designers making 110K + per year working off of Fiverr and I am just breaking 40K a year. I can't complain too much, because it is paying the bills, but I wish I could figure out how to push through and make more off of freelance platforms.

Good stuff as always, Alex! So cool what you're doing with the barn. I definitely feel a pull to connect more with people offline.

Most of my clients have come from in-person networking and from my podcast (Social Media Magic). I'm actually thinking of getting on Fiverr now for some lower-ticket, one-off projects like UGC content so I can pass on more work to my team as I build it into an agency!

In my case, they closed my Fiverr account because someone who didn't know their policies sent me their contact information. That's when I knew I couldn't depend on Fiverr. What worked for me was through collaboration with small to medium sized companies, who were in the same industry as me, but doing different things. We negotiate on the price, and how much they take per project. They would just add my services under their portfolio, then send me projects whenever they get clients. Now I get 10 times the orders than I did

I read your featured article. And was impressed. I was currently considering joining Fiverr or Upwork. I'm so glad your video popped up in my feed.

I've done $300k on Fiverr in the past few years. Totally happy being on there. Best part is that the business comes to me. I feel very fortunate.
