Hernán Cortés, a Spanish colonist, arrived in the Imperial City of Tenochtitlan in 1519 and sought to conquer the Aztec Empire. Cortes forged alliances and manipulated local rulers, including Moctezuma, to gain control and influence. Conflict erupted, and after initial setbacks, Cortes and his forces managed to escape from Tenochtitlan. Cortes returned with allies and attacked Tenochtitlan again, eventually capturing the city after a series of battles and sieges. The Spanish colonization of the Aztec Empire led to the downfall of the ancient civilization due to factors like disease (smallpox) and war.

If you're not going to grant Cortés any credit for defeating the Aztecs because he had help from other local tribes, then don't assign him any blame for it either.

Sorry, but showing Teotihuacan when speaking of Tenochtitlan is like showing mediaeval Paris when speaking of modern day London. That said, good film. I never considered the Battle of Tenochtitlan to be a mediaeval event.

You can't blame Cortez for whst happened because in the end of it - He stopped human and child sacrifice and cannibalsm that these cultures had as customs. I am glad for this as a south american that the European coming because all our cultures were nasty when it came to treatment of humans for sacrifices and we finally became judeo-christian and we treated as civilians should be!

The Spanish had guns, cannons, crossbows, steel armor, steel weapons and horses. The Aztecs didn't have that and never saw it before. The Spanish also formed alliances with enemies of the Aztecs. Cortes was charismatic and manipulative.

The Aztecs enslaved the other tribes. They didn't pay tribute because they were just weak. They were slaves to Montezuma.

Why in the world did this video make Moctezuma have a full Fu Manchu goatee?

Does Spain still hold treasures from the Aztecs?

This is crazy. Any man who depicts himself as a god, will be dealt with accordingly.

For anyone interrested in this subject i would reccomend watching djpeachcobblers videos on the subject.
Its a much more nuanced and interresting videoseries than this. This is based almost completely on the accounts of hernan cortes which he wrote with the goal of justifying the actions he was taking

At least, those people made Spanish a world language. The same way the British Empire made English the international language. English and Spanish are the best❤🔥

Fall of civilizations channel does it better, and their comment section isn’t full of a bunch of weirdos that get off on the subjugation and a destruction of a group of people. The Aztecs definitely got beating in part from their own cruelties, and the fact they faced an enemy that was far advanced in terms of technology. No horses or live stock, like cows, on the North American continent. I find these story very interests and it cool to look back at history and still see the similarities on how we do things today. People are still being massacred in the name of power and greed.
