STOP Feeding Your Fish!

Father Fish never feeds his fish. But they are never hungry. His aquarium has a built in food web that grows food for his fish. The food web is at the forefront of aquarium research, focusing on using wild-collected leaves from lakes, rivers, and other water bodies as food for microscopic life. Father Fish challenges the conventional belief that aquariums must be sterile environments devoid of bacteria. Instead, he argues that fish, like humans, come from natural ecosystems teeming with life, including beneficial bacteria essential for their health.
Father Fish advocates for a more natural approach to aquarium maintenance, suggesting that frequent water changes are unnecessary if a balanced food web and planted aquarium are established. He demonstrates this by asserting that he could leave his aquarium for 6 months relying solely on the food web and plants to sustain his fish. This method emphasizes sustainability and ecological balance, mirroring natural aquatic ecosystems. Father Fish's research and practices aim to revolutionize aquarium care by promoting self-sustaining environments that prioritize the holistic health of aquatic life through natural processes and minimal intervention.
A Food Web is the basis of a Natural Aquarium. Father Fish teaches how to build a living food web in your aquarium. The food web is the most natural system for an aquarium. Creating a food web is simple and foolproof. Fish live their entire lives in environments with established food webs. This is their natural environment.

Hello from Indianapolis, 3 weeks ago I set up a tank like you suggested. I've had aquariums off and on since I was 10, now at the age of 51 this set up went flawless. I would always get frustrated and pour money into it, this time fish and everything is perfect, I just can't believe the money and time wasted before, thanks a million times

lol I did have to wrap my head around this method, in the “dirtyness” of it. I struggled for a long time and I wish I had seen your videos first. Not sure why I didn’t. You just kinda showed up one day on my feed and now all 3 of my tanks are set up as you direct. Thank you! It’s so wonderful now and enjoyable to keep fish. I share your videos and try to “recruit” others 😂 I live on a lake (duh!!!) and have an unending supply of floating plants that grown a lot.

Hello From India: have already hooked on to deep substrate. Have set up a 4ft*1.5ft*2ft tank on the concept of deep substrate. The next step is to build a food web. The challenge I have is that I don’t have any water body from which I can collect leaves. Planning to collect dried leaves and add them in the tank

I'm a reptile keeper, first and foremost. Fish keeping always seemed so intimidating! I wanted to create a paludarium upgrade for my beloved keel bellied lizard, with a water feature where I could keep some lovely tetras, maybe some shrimp, snails. I'm a total newbie, but I keep my reptiles in a bioactive setup, which is similar to walstad but on land! I'm learning so much, and this whole thing feels so much less intimidating to get into now! Thank you father fish and the lovely community here as well :)

I’m hopefully starting a tank soon that’s going to be composed of 100% locally sourced materials- except for probably substrate.
It’s going to be a Great Lakes tributary biotope. With scavenged driftwood, rocks and even fish! Currently measuring flow rate of the creeks around me to imitate it with a power head. Trying to get as close to an accurate recreation of the habitat I harvest from as I can. 😊
