They do this to me all the time because I’m light brown - but what’s funny is I never say anything or mention or bring up my skin color, they always do . 😂

Just like there is a spectrum for dark skin there is a spectrum for light skin as well.

Nigerians call me light skin, African Americans call me light brown. And I personally have never even cared 😭, every time someone tries to debate me or call me mixed I have to tell them no, I’m fully Nigerian just light skin . They really care way more than we do and it’s sick.

They really use "you're not that light skinned!" like a cattle prod. They keep hitting you with it until you hopefully (for them) get back into the herd.

I’m the color of Kerry Washington and Megan Good and people will say you’re not light skinned. 😂 I’ve been called light skinned all my life till this brown skinned thing came along.

Right. They put light on the pedestal. Light people simply exist. They are the ones putting a value on complexion and then complain about their own obsessions.

I love that you brought up filters. I’m a light skin that puts dark filters on my photos. I’ve been told plenty of times that they thought I was darker online than I am in person. Especially if I’m not wearing makeup. I don’t know cameras just make me look darker than I actually am.

My avatar pic was taken after I went to Aruba in April and laid out in the sun. I love tanning to as dark as possible because I love how silky my skin looks. In my vlogs you’ll see I can be like 3 different tones based on season. My skintone is not my personality but it’s always been some UA male usually telling me “you still black” if I talk about my mixture lol

If the word light has to be hypeneated when describing your complexion; you're light. Period.

In my experience many white people also believe that the term light skinned only refers to biracials. However in the black community a LS person is just considered to be a light brown mono racial

I see what you mean.. back in the day

Light brown = lightskin. Period.

So back in the day, people like Megan thee stallion or even Lori Harvey would be considered lightskin so that's what I'm still going by 🤷🏾‍♀️

According to Africans, light-brown IS light-skinned.

Growing up in the UK it was always “you’re just light skinned not mixed race”….now they say I’m dark skinned in an attempt to “humble me” without understanding the inference 😂😂😂. Meanwhile I couldn’t care less 🤷🏽‍♀️

This has happened to me at a salon I used to frequent. This male stylist was describing someone’s complexion and my stylist said “oh light like her?” (Referring to me) and he turned around and rolled his eyes and said “she’s not that light” Definitely was a member of Blackistan, that term kills me 😂

I've never really referred to myself that way. HOWEVER, I've had groups of people argue amongst themselves about this 🙄. I have people on my blocked list because of this conversation. Being a live broadcaster is WILD 🙃😭

I'm being accused of using skin lightening creams in my comments ever since I made that video about being Creole 😭 Like HUH!! This is my natural skin color 😭

This video is right on time. I had someone JUST TODAY compare me to cardboard. He thought it was funny that I was lighter than the cardboard 😩😒

Dusty people don't like anyone that looks good. I've been accused of "acting" light-skin or white several times. Mind you now I'm chocolate skin, 3c hair and keen features. But because I'm confident, well spoken and own my God- given beauty; I'm "acting" light-skin or white.

I've learned in my 30 something years to pay most people dust, and even then i feel like they should be greatful for that because i don't have to acknowledge them at all.😆😆.

also don't forget your facial features as well plays a role, if your brown skinned with afrocentric features black people would say you sre darkskinned😂😂you should talk about this next

And if they can't hit you with the "you're not that light-skinned", they will hit you with "you look white" or some other derogatory variation. It recently dawned on me that I have a white passing skin tone after watching some of your videos(I knew subconsciously, but I was viewing myself as lighter caramel as a defense mechanism when I'm actually a white-passing "pale" skin tone) and I have gotten that condescending your'e white/you look white/what are you comments. It reminds me of how some UABW will say Meghan Markle looks like(can pass as) a white woman and we all know that's false. I'm an MGM black American woman btw(Phenotype: freckles, black 3c hair, light brown eyes etc)
