Biden to boost wind industry as climate plan stalls

President Biden travels to Massachusetts Wednesday to announce a boost to the offshore wind industry and federal aid to combat extreme heat. The trip comes as Democratic Senator Joe Manchin declines to support Biden's climate change agenda. CBS News senior white house and political correspondent Ed O'Keefe reports.

The Big Scam: One of the big challenges here is that wind and solar power plants have a much lower "capacity factor" than plants that run on fuel. A fuel-based plant can run around the clock (with breaks for maintenance), while wind and solar plants produce energy only when the wind is blowing or sun is shining. This energy is either used or lost (there is no huge battery storage for the U.S. grid).
The answer is nuclear, but that word leaves a bad taste in U.S. politicians' mouths. Although a nuclear plant and a wind farm might have the same "nameplate capacity" of 1 gigawatt, you'd actually need three or four wind farms that size to produce the same number of MWh as the nuclear plant.

We've tried this before. A wind turbine blade plant was built in my town....it shut down before construction was even completed. Literally got the government subsidies....and never produced a single blade.
