Importance of Black voters in the presidential race

For decades, Black voters have largely voted Democratic, but President Trump made some gains between 2016 and 2020. Black voters could play a key role in several states with very tight races. The large black turnout ( Dem. new registers and Obama voters ) simply masked the increasing shift of black voters (particularly black men) to the republican party since 2012. Not withstanding the large black turnout, Trump/Repubs increased their share of the black turnout by 50% from 16'. This shift started before Trump and will continue after Trump.
