Clonidine

Показать описание
Clonidine, once primarily marketed as Catapres, remains among the 100 most prescribed medicines in spite of being on the market for over 50 years. While approved for treating hypertension and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, doctors routinely employ clonidine for a wide assortment of off label purposes.

Clonidine may assist in withdrawal from opioids, alcohol and tobacco. Clonidine finds use in treating menopausal or treatment induced hot flashes, the flushing of rosacea, PTSD and some anxiety related disorders. Interest in clonidine relates to its supposed ability to reduce neuropathic pain from nerve damage related to diabetes and shingles.

Side effects related to clonidine tend to be relatively mild and diminish with continued use. Some may be especially troublesome: dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue and headache. More problematic are vision disturbances, restlessness and erectile dysfunction. When used as a patch applied to the skin, irritation and blisters may develop.

Clonidine may aggravate the central nervous system depressive effects of alcohol, barbiturates and sedatives. Tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline impair the blood pressure lowering effect of clonidine. Combining clonidine with atypical antipsychotics such as Abilify or Zyprexa often result in dizziness and fatigue.

Thank u Dr, im a mdd patient, today i went to my Psychiatrist, it was for the second time seeing him, im on prolax capsule, last month he increase my dosage to 40 mg in the morning & at night im taking promethazine 25mg. But still im still have horrible headache & struggle to sleep sometimes, so he said it's migraine which i waa told like 7 years ago,
Today the dosage of Prolax was increased again to 60 mg in the morning & 50 mg of Promethazine & he also gave me the Prescription for Clonidine 0, 025 mg so it will be a repeat for six months, i believe it will help with those horrible migraine & insomnia.

I love how these pharmacological studies say "We don't know exactly how it works in the brain, but it is believed to..."

I’m so impressed with his knowledge. You can tell its through genuine experience, not just book learned. These doctors are dying out these days. Sad to see.

Update 5/3/2024: he is 7 1/2 now and still takes it at night before bedtime. & is still doing amazing💙

My 4 year old son is autistic and takes one every night. If it doesn’t, he will literally be up until 5am and sometimes 24 hours he sleeps wonderfully.

Thank you for all of this useful information. I was prescribed Clonidine for tics. 25 micrograms (one tablet) per day which I tapered upwards to 75 micrograms (three tablets) per day which was the maximum my doctor recommended before I should notice undesirable side effects. My tics did not improve and I had severe urinary retention. I was suicidal at the time which may have featured, but as soon as I tapered off Clonidine my bladder went back to normal.

Very helpful information and explained in depth.
This will definitely give me needed guidance in deciding if other meds should be my first choice for my sudden reoccurrence of hypertension after several years not needing any meds.

It brings down my critically high blood pressure but makes me feel drugged all day long. Thank you, Doctor.(added) American drug prices are insane, Clonidine costs about $6 for a box of 100 here in Thailand and the doctor's receptionist gives it to you along with whatever else the doctor prescribes. Oh, and it's walk-in, you do not need an appointment.

Thanks for the info! My psychiatrist gave very little details. Autism/anxiety/depression. I am not sure if it is helping. I get anxious about risks, etc. This video gave me some peace of mind. I appreciate the amount of info. Thanks.

It was originally a nasal decongestant drug, that had a side effect of lowering BP. It can cause hallucinations in some people.

Starting it today for anxiety, insomnia, and adhd. I want to get off of the hydroxyzine I’m taking for insomnia, fingers crossed that it works 😬
Update: I had to stop taking it bc my blood pressure dropped really low and I couldn't change positions with without severe dizziness and nausea. My doctor is recommending I switch to guanethidine and see if I have a better reaction :)
