Musical: You don't have to die this way
Movie: Alright, blow yourself up! I'll light my cigarette with it!

"Don't know what this thing will do" always makes me sad, because like, it shows he isn't some mastermind genius serial killer, he's just a kid who was cursed with a shitty life and mental problems.

But can we talk about how... J.D.'s mother committed suicide by walking into a building before it got blown up/demolished by his dad...
And now J.D.'s about to blow up a building, but unlike his father he won't be taking the life of the woman he loves.

'I'd hardly call this a bomb' he said.
'this is just to trigger the packs of thermals upstairs in the gym.' He said

JD: “please stand back now..”
Veronica: *stand back*
JD: *...*
JD: “Little further”

For some reason the little pause between "please stand back now" and "little further" makes me laugh. in between my shattered heart

I think that if JD survived I wouldn't have liked this musical as much. The fact he died left me wanting more, and left me wishing he lived. It leaves this pining feeling that makes you cling to the story

Even at the most tragic scene in the show, we somehow still get a piece of comic relief with the "little further" line. This is beautful.

"Say hi to God" is the most badass way to finish off the climax of the show.

A lot of people complain that the musical changed too much from the movie, and therefore it's bad, I don't agree, but I noticed one thing: Musical J.D is in love. Yes, you can argue that Movie J.D was in love, yeah, maybe he was, and yes he did say 'I loved you!' when he discovered Veronica hanging from the ceiling, but he also says 'Well, I was comin' up here to kill ya anyway.' in the same scene. Both versions were manipulative, and loved Veronica to two different extents. But musical J.D actually loved Veronica. J.D was so delusionally broken up that he genuinely thought what he was doing what the right thing: he thought that love, was being God together. Movie J.D didn't have a God complex, Musical J.D did. He thought that's what he needed to do. Movie J.D thought so too, but he wasn't doing it for Veronica. That J.D was doing it for the world to see, for society to realize what he means they're doing wrong. Movie J.D did it for his own opinions, almost artistic, downright poetic expression. Musical J.D did it for Veronica.

See this song really gets me. It shows the real difference between the movie and musical J.D. In the movie he dies to prove a point or maybe because he just wanted to die.

In the musical, he dies to save Veronica. He dies so she can move on and have a normal life. In the musical J.D. Isn't crazy, he's just...damaged. In the movie J.D. is just crazy. That's why I love this song because it shows the side of J.D. I love. The side where he cares so much for Veronica.

Well that was super long but i'm a big fan of both the movie and musical.

Honestly though, what I absolutely adore about "Say hi to God" is that it can be understood in so many different ways.
-As he's dying, he sings "our love is God", a line that's so deeply related to his manipulative ways, and it feels like, before he's gone, he just wants a confirmation that what they did was right. And she doesn't give him that. Compare to the ending of "Our Love is God": back then, she was shocked and terrified and eventually started repeating after him. Here, she's also shocked and terrified, and the situation almost repeats itself, but this time, she doesn't give in. She refuses to stay under his influence any longer.
-At the very same time, it also sounds like she acknowledges his wrongs and fully forgives him. She realises the extent to which she was harmed by him, and lets go. At this moment, she believes he's worthy of going to heaven, regardless of what he did.
-Or we could see it as her completely embracing the hate she feels for him and wanting him to know that their love is dead, that he'll see it on the other side. That's also a believable and kind of amazing option.
-In the same vein, it could mean that she's saying their love ISN'T God, that JD isn't nearly as important as he thinks he is; there's a God out there, and JD will be meeting him soon. Said meeting probably won't be very fun for him.
In conclusion: Heathers, I hate and love you for breaking my heart.

I guess dating JD really blew up in Veronica's face, didn't it?

Everyone down here posting about how deep this song is, but can we talk about how an electric guitar took most of the weight of that explosion noise? Like that was all electric guitar my dudes.

I love all of the different development the musical did with JD's character. In the movie, I never really cared about him that much, but in the musical you want him and Veronica to be able to just be normal but he's insane. God, it's like the Phantom all over again.
