This is a masterpiece by Brazilian composer Francisco (Chico) Buarque de Holanda. It portrays the life of a bricklayer that falls from a building and dies in the street “hindering traffic”. The music has this steady and strong movement. But the real gem are the lyrics. Fantastic poetry. I always cry when I listen to it. More so when I listen to these young musicians led by the incredible Joan Chamorro. Absolute art in all aspects!

I think this is an incredible musical achievement! This is a compelling but extremely difficult musical composition. When you consider it was performed here with the equivalent of a high school band and the vocalist came in and did it when she was only days away from delivering her baby it makes it even amazing. When I first heard this song at the time of the Brazilian Olympics I didn’t particularly like it but it is amazing has a powerful message and haunts you, in a good sort of way. I have listened to other renditions and this one is very, very good.

J'ajoute que les arrangements de Joan Monné sont toujours somptueux, subtils, et raffinés, il nous fait monter l'orchestre comme le Boléro de Ravel, en outre, il est excellent pianiste et aussi discret que talentueux, jamais dans la lumière, mais je reconnaîtrais son style assurément nimporte où, et c'est bien là la marque de ceux que l'on oublie pas, alors Merci pour tout ces bonheurs.
