Signs of the End Times are among us..

The Sixth Trumpet Prophecy from the Book of Revelation is a significant moment in the apocalyptic timeline, marking a turning point in the series of events that lead to the final judgment. Found in Revelation 9:13-21, this prophecy is part of the larger sequence of trumpet judgments that God sends upon the Earth during the end times. Each trumpet heralds a new, catastrophic event that unfolds divine wrath upon humanity, and the sixth trumpet, in particular, stands out as one of the most devastating.

- The Sounding of the Sixth Trumpet

The prophecy begins with the sounding of the sixth trumpet by one of the seven angels. Upon this signal, a voice comes from the golden altar before God. This voice commands the release of four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates. These angels have been held back, restrained specifically for this moment in time. Their release triggers a wave of destruction that results in the death of one-third of humanity.

The Euphrates, one of the great rivers of biblical geography, often carries deep symbolic meaning in the scriptures. It represents a boundary between Israel and its enemies, a place of historical significance where many nations rose and fell. In this prophecy, the Euphrates takes on a new role as the point of origin for this judgment upon the earth. The release of the four angels signals a catastrophic shift in divine activity.

- The Four Angels and the Army of Horsemen

The four angels, once released, are described as being prepared for this very hour, day, month, and year. Their role is to lead an army of 200 million horsemen who wreak havoc on the Earth. The description of this army is otherworldly and terrifying. The horsemen wear breastplates of fiery red, dark blue, and sulfur yellow. The horses themselves have heads like lions, and from their mouths come fire, smoke, and sulfur—elements of destruction that are reminiscent of the plagues upon Egypt during the Exodus.

These creatures and their riders bring devastation as they sweep across the earth. The specific details given in the prophecy—such as the number of horsemen and the manner of destruction—highlight the scale of this judgment. One-third of humanity is killed by the fire, smoke, and sulfur that issue forth from the mouths of these horses. This event is not just an act of war but a divine intervention, a supernatural judgment that reshapes the world in its wake.

- The Unrepentant Humanity

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the sixth trumpet prophecy is the response of the survivors. Despite witnessing such overwhelming destruction and death, the remaining two-thirds of humanity do not repent of their sins. Revelation 9:20-21 tells us that they continued to worship idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—gods that could not see, hear, or walk. They also refused to turn from their murders, sorceries, sexual immorality, and thefts.

This stubborn persistence in sin serves as a poignant reminder of the hardening of human hearts in the face of divine judgment. The refusal to repent despite the obvious display of God’s power and wrath underscores the depth of humanity’s rebellion. It reflects the broader theme found throughout scripture: that God’s patience is vast, but there comes a time when judgment is inevitable, and for many, that judgment will come while they remain unrepentant.

- Theological Implications

The sixth trumpet prophecy carries profound theological implications. It serves as a warning of the finality and severity of divine judgment. The release of the four angels and the unleashing of the 200 million horsemen represents a divine decree that cannot be undone. This event is meticulously planned, as the text indicates that the angels are prepared for this exact moment. It is a reminder that God’s timeline for judgment is precise and inevitable.

The prophecy also speaks to the nature of human sin and rebellion. Even in the face of clear divine intervention, humanity’s inclination toward idolatry and immorality persists. This serves as a sobering reflection on the human condition, highlighting the need for repentance and transformation before the end comes.

The Sixth Trumpet Prophecy in Revelation is a crucial part of the apocalyptic narrative, representing both a literal and symbolic event. It illustrates the unleashing of divine wrath upon a rebellious humanity, the inevitability of judgment, and the persistence of sin even in the face of catastrophic consequences. As part of the larger trumpet sequence, it emphasizes the urgency for repentance and the consequences of ignoring the warnings given by God throughout history. The imagery of the 200 million horsemen and the massive loss of life underscores the magnitude of this moment in the unfolding of the apocalypse.

It is the two witnesses that cause the 6th trumpet. The Euphrates dries up because there is no rain. NO RAIN, NO WATER, RIVER DRIES...That is why the third WOE follows the two in chapter 11, but the 6th trumpet is also called a WOE.
