Google is showing a Doodle in some countries on September 7, 2022, to celebrate Louise “Miss Lou” Bennett-Coverley’s 103rd birthday. The Jamaican poet, folklorist, activist and entertainer empowered the country to take pride in its language and culture.

This was a great initiative on Google's part. She was a force that brought a lot of change in shaping black pride in Jamaica and more so Jamaica's pride in its own culture.

Today's Doodle was a wonderful gift - spreading joy across the Jamaican Diaspora including here to Toronto - Miss Lou's adopted and final home. "I feel like me heart gwine burs... Jamaica people colonizin Google in reverse"

This is a wonderful way to celebrate one of the great poets and storytellers from the Caribbean. She was very inspirational and an influential force for reminding us of the value of black and Caribbean culture.
