We had one of those on the New York Central back in 1963, but it had some of the very first highrail equipment and could travel on the rails as well as on roads. It sure didn't look all perty like that one does! Plain Jane wouldn't have done it justice. But they sure hauled a lot of stuff in it. I remember the bed being full of ties one time. Talk about a rake! lol Thanks for the nice reminder Kenny.

With big cab it makes the bed not look that long. Bet it takes a lot of real estate to turn around. Cool

Up until about ten years ago, there was the cab and frame of one of these that sat behind Preators Bean Mill In Burlington Wyoming. I tried talking them out of it, but they were using the cab for storage. The bank repossessed the bean mill and everything was cleaned up. I don't know where the pickup went.

If I found a cab like this how would I know if this is one the 6 made?

Five man crew plus a foreman. The box was that long to haul railroad ties with the tailgate closed. Everything was done by hand back in the day. And everybody had work and a paycheck to support their families. As I recall, every crew station had one, so not quite as rare as one might think. At least not on the O.N.R. and the C.N.rail lines.
