Weird stuff in this cut content boss room

I have to hope YouTube is fine with statues being a little immodest, or they'd have to go after Animal Crossing museum tours too.

We can extend some gratitude to QLOC for overlooking this, like all the rest of the unused content they generously left in. This object exists in the PtDE files as well, but the textures for the 2D statues are much, much worse. Bamco must have sent them all the original assets instead of the crunched up compressed versions that made it into retail originally.

Also, I didn't really focus in on it in the video, but another connection to Gwyndolin is that the orb the figure is standing appears to be flanked by snakes.

The sunlight maggot comparison got me thinking about how it looks a lot like Gwyndolin's crown. The sunlight maggot creates a fake sun for its host, and so does Gwyndolin maintain the fake sun in Anor Londo.

That statue is actually 'The Star Maiden' by Alexander Stirling Calder. it is likely that her crown serves as an inspiration for Gwyndolin, otherwise this image is probably just used as a placeholder.

You really shouldn’t let your baby hold a giant sword like that

Just an observation, while the logical first assumption for the elevators is that they were for O&S, it's far more likely that they were designed for general use by regular size people and giants. You can see this design theme in other parts of Anor Londo, like the steps leading up to the cathedral having large steps in the middle and smaller steps on the sides.

A obvious detail regarding Solaire and the sunlight maggot I never noticed until recently is that when he puts the maggot on his head he literally becomes the icon he made on his shield and chestpiece.
The maggots tendrils match the outline of his sun icon and his face although somewhat covered matches where the face on the icon would be.
I always figured that him saying I am the sun when he hollows was just him talking about the fact he was emitting light and that revelation made his fate a lot sadder for me.

The baby's absence in Anor Londo statues adds credence to it being Gwyn's firstborn, IMO. All depictions of him were removed from the city, as we know from his missing statue in the finished game.

Over 10 years and yet new shit gets discovered. Incredible.

They had to remove it because Miyazaki didn't want us to thirst for Gwyndolin, he wanted us to thirst for Gwynevere. Well now look how the tables have turned.

That made me think: in the real room if you shoot an arrow where the Gwyn's firstborn statue was supposed to be it will hit something invisible, could you investigate?

I never realized until this video that the two elevators are different sizes to fit Ornstein and Smough. That’s an incredibly cool detail

Edit: Goddamn, I know people say this a lot, but thanks for all the likes!

"Gwynevere's chamber isn't included, so unfortunately we don't get to see anything that may have changed there."

God. Can you imagine all the memes, fanart and lore with Gwyndolin if that had stayed in the game?

Souls cut content always is pretty interesting. How much story-related cut content in the files is confirmed, hinting at stuff that could have been?

"This was too suggestive so they removed it"
Gwynevere: *still in the game.*
Not that I'm complaining though.

0:46 That reminds me of Guts as a child hugging his sword while sleeping.

This makes me think that at some point there might have been a conscious decision to shift Gwyndolin from being a female to a... more effeminate male.

That sword is in a horrible spot for the baby.

Something I noticed on my last playthrough of DS1 was that the steeple of Anor Londo has what looks like a stairway leading up to it, just barely visible from the spacious balcony where two silver knights stand guard. In fact, it looks extremely reminiscent of the stairs leading to Filianore's chamber in DS3... However, there doesn't appear to be any logical place where the base of those stairs would connect.

I'm sure it was just a coincidence, but still, now I like to imagine the steeple was Filianore's old room before Gwyn sacrificed her to the Ringed City.
