Asiana Airlines Business Class (A380: LAX to ICN)
So excited to share with you my Business Class experience on Asiana Airlines from Los Angeles LAX to Seoul ICN.
Here were some of the amenities my 13 hour journey consisted of:
1. Star Alliance Business Class Lounge at LAX Airport:
This is one of the top Star Alliance lounges in the network, with plentiful space to relax and catch up on work. As you enter, you can store your luggage in the luggage area and then borrow one of their iPads for your using pleasure. The couches and chairs are all modern and chic in design, with an open indoor living room like feel area and then and outdoor balcony seating area overlooking the public airport area, both with their own bars. They have their own private free wifi, media room and shower rooms. As for food, they have a self-serve buffet with a variety of international foods - inclusive of a pho noodle bar! The food was okay in taste, but definitely edible. I just opted for the wine. :) Make sure you go to the outside terrance as that's the top feature of this lounge.
2. Business Class Cabin Amenities
The 20 business class seats on the A380 have a 1-2-1 seat configuration, just like their first class suites. I had a right window seat with a table next to the window that made the seat protrude out to the aisle a bit, so definitely a loss in privacy there as they stagger their configuration. If you're a couple, the 2 "honeymoon" seats in the middle are perfect seats as they are very close together. The seat itself was very comfortable and lies completely flat, which helped give me some very restful sleep during the flight. There are also a lot of storage space - more then other competing airlines, which was a huge perk.
There is 2 bathrooms in front and 2 bathrooms in back of the business class section - one being a really large bathroom, perfect for parents that need a diaper changing area. The bathrooms are filled with L'occitane products (from lotion to facial toner). I think my favorite part of the entire business class section is the lounge area with 4 seats you can chill in if you want to get out of your seat and mingle with others.
As for the movie selection on the flight - it was unfortunately, quite subpar with very few movie options. The entertainment system is exactly the same throughout all the classes of the flight.
3. Additional Amenities
Asiana gave out a whimsy L'Occitane toiletries bag filled with what seemed to be items you could find at CVS - from bright orange ear plugs to cheap eye masks. The one nice amenity in the bag was one tiny bottle of L'Occitane lotion. They also provided me with a flimsy pair of slippers, pillow and blanket that I never had to use because the flight was far too warm.
4. Food
For their formal meal service, they included dinner and breakfast with a western option and an asian option. I opted for the asian Korean option for both meals. I thought my main course - the Korean bibimbap was subpar. The main course of the breakfast was okay as well.
My menu included:
Dinner
Starter - Beef vegetable roll
Main Course - Korean Bibimbap
Dessert - Fresh Fruit, coffee/tea, traditional cookies
Drink - I opted for a glass of the Chateau Cissac 2014
Breakfast
Main - Mushroom and vegetable porridge, fruit and tea
5. Service
I had 1-2 flight attendants that attended to me throughout the flight. I thought the flight attendants were very friendly. However, compared to some of the other Asian airlines, their English was not very strong making communication more difficult then other flights I've been on. Also, something I noticed was that they don't offer a glass of welcome champagne like Eva and Cathay Business Class flights do, nor do they address you by your name. I didn't realize how much of a difference it made until I flew on Asiana - what a double edge sword.
Overall, I had some of the most restful sleep I've had on a long haul flight to Asia. Regardless, of some of my criticisms, it is still a business class flight with good service and I still enjoyed it thoroughly.
