They might be doing their jobs, but they consider him as a father figure. Commandant(the player) even gets along with the other constructs. Games like these are games but emotional scenes like their rough pasts do hit people hard though.

In the newest chapter (not out in global yet) Lucia actually full on confesses and kisses commandant.

At least Commandant didn’t actually go alone since he had Wanshi(the sleepy construct) with him for protection just in case. This scene here was emotional though since Gray Raven cared about Commandant that much.
