Early on when COVID had only been here a few months, my fiance came down with a viral upper respiratory infection while our two-year-old son was staying over night with his grandparents. My fiance works in a large tertiary hospital and I'm a paramedic working on the ambulance full-time. We decided to self-quarantine together while still separated from our son. We waited about a week to get her COVID test results back, and this was the "fast-tracked" return time since she's a Healthcare worker. It was already difficult trying to manage the stress of not having enough PPE, the mass layoffs, the severe supply shortages, and MAGA dumbshits railing against masks and social distancing; but having to be separated from our only son felt like unbearable torture. Her results were negative. I'm so grateful that our family still hasn't contracted COVID and that we haven't been split up any longer than that, like so many other brave families. My heart goes out to all the essential workers who have had to endure such an extraordinary burden during this pandemic. I hope that future generations of Americans will hail them as the heroes that they are.

Happy Nurses Week to you and your husband and thank you for all your selfless service in the face of this awful disease. I’ve seen Covid-19 - from the patient side. You’ve seen and treated it for months from the expert nursing side. I imagine you’ve lost patients and you’ve undoubtedly been repeatedly exposed- yet continue to do your job. Most people rightfully admire that, as do I. Keep your spirits up. Your neighbor is a complete nut. Sorry you had to see that.
