If you're going to guess on the MSRP of a bike and state in the video that you think the SV is $1500 less than the KTM but you will throw the actual MSRP up on the screen during final editing, then you should do so! SV ABS MSRP $7499; non-ABS $7049. The SV is $2.5K to $3K less than the KTM. That is a significant $ difference and should be correctly noted in the video or notes section since you gave incorrect information in what you stated.

I've been lucky enough to own both long-term... if I had to describe each of them in three words, those words would be "easy, grunty, friendly" and "just fucking bonkers". Guess which one is which. I loved the SV and in comparison to the Duke, it's easier to live with, a fair bit heavier, and a fair bit cheaper. But the Duke - my current steed (a Duke R no less) - makes me feel 30 years younger, and I ride it like the twat I was when I was 17, everywhere, usually with a wide open throttle. I love the fact it weighs as much as an ice cream wafer and getting 70mpg out of it too. It's my antidote to the tedium of everyday humdrum, and I've had a lot of easy, grunty, friendly bikes over the years. The 690 was the big orange reset button I needed to reboot my life. It's impossible not to fall in love with them. Ps. You can sort out the revvy gutless nature of the 690 with an ECU tune and a tweak to the standard gearing.

The words KTM and reliability should never be used in the same sentence. That SV ever so quietly has been extremely reliable and overlooked for years.

First, great review of both bikes!

Bought a 17' SV650 (non abs ) back in Oct of last year. It is my first bike. Took the MSF course and started riding at 55 yoa. I have nothing to compare it to as I have not ridden any other bike. I can tell you it is a great bike for a beginner and has room to grow into. The bike is a hoot to ride with plenty of low end but will keep up easily on the interstate.

Rode it to Macon for a business meeting and turned around and rode back home. 300 miles and it was comfortable the whole time.

Keep up the great content!

I don't think it makes much sense to compare these two. The SV is a V twin budget naked bike that's made to do everything decently, but nothing particularly well. The Duke is a single cylinder sumo/naked bike hybrid with top of the line suspension and brakes, extremely light weight and very focused on being a great hooligan bike. The Duke is a lot better in the twisties and a lot more fun, while the SV is cheaper and better at most everyday things you'll use it for.

As a commuter I’d pick the Suzuki for reliability and low maintenance.

sv650x owner here. Love this bike so much I hardly even jump on my ZX6R now. Second SV I've owned, had an SV1000s with a GSXR1000 front end before and loved that bike dearly although it was a bit of a bull. This bike is just a peach, so easy to ride, pretty comfortable on decent length rides (even with the X model having clip-ons), proven drivetrain that still sings like the SV always has, just a really good bike. When the local shop put it up for $6k I snatched it up the next day.

Bought a 2018 sv650 abs 2 months ago as my first bike. Instantly fell in love the moment I rode it! And have been taking it on joyrides every week. Already have 1800 miles on the OD haha.

I'd say you've been unduly influenced by the names on some of the components on the KTM.

Apple's to oranges....the2017 SV can be found as low as $6000 but the KTM is going to fetch at least the SV is probably the better choice 60% the cost..Japanese reliability beats the Austrian challenger long term

Buy the SV and spend the extra money on a nice shock and fork up grade. The SV will last longer and be more reliable than the KTM. Of course resale would probably be better on the KTM, and it is cooler. SV for me.

SV650 all day long, more reliable, more comfortable, and a better bike all round. KTM to much money to expensive to service and not reliable.

Ktm is only 160kg wet, the sv650 is over 200kg.
There is a SIGNIFICANT weight difference, we're not talking just a little bit
