The first Lab LDN of 2023 was a spiritual techno experience, and we're grateful to Sama' Abdulhadi 🙏
The Lab is brought to you by Mixmag & Coors and powered by a Pioneer PRO AUDIO system.

Sama’s sound has transcended beyond the influences of her Palestinian hometown to dancefloors around the globe, capturing the essence of Beirut's flourishing underground with her take on Lebanon-meets-Berlin techno. Sama’ now gears up for a string of shows across North and South America this spring where she’ll bring her distinctive full-bodied techno sound to the States.

In 2022, Sama’ started up the Bring Back Beirut fundraising initiative in aid of liquidity crisis-afflicted Lebanon, hosting shows in cities including Paris, London, Berlin, and her adopted home of Beirut. As one of Palestine’s biggest exports, the DJ and producer is now taking the world by storm and is even set to star in a brand new documentary created by a selection of Middle Eastern directors and producers in the coming months.

On her residency she says:
“I am hugely excited to join the long list of iconic artists who have hosted the 4 Fridays at Phonox residency in London, I loved playing at the club earlier this year for my Bring Back Beirut fundraiser and loved the energy of the loyal crowd who party there. I am bringing with me my Union collective crew again, plus have invited two artists whom I respect hugely – Jennifer Cardini and Victor Ruiz.” – Sama’ Abdulhadi.

Fun fact she told me after the party ended: the vocals at the end belong to her dad, who is reciting a poem. If that is not the most wholesome thing ever, I don't know what it is.

Been listening to Sama' for a few years now. Best set I've seen so far - love her energy, passion, and skill! Greetings and blessings from a 70-year old guy in New Hampshire, USA!

from the right and left coasts of Canada... Righteous, cool, exhilarating, Sama' ~ and your dad reciting Mahmoud Darwish is the righteous icing on the cake! It was a year or so ago that I discovered your fun, energetic and lovin' sets, and when I mentioned to my son, living and playing in Berlin, that I'd been discovering you, he told me that you were appearing in the same festival - XJazz - as he and his band, Sonic Intervention. Good karma, I think! Rock on, girl ~ love to you and to Palestine. Viva Palestine!

I genuinely hope that listeners can appreciate the profound significance when Sama Abdulhadi incorporates her father's recitation of a poem by Mahmoud Darwish into her track. This transcends mere techno music; it is an immersive, spiritual experience. Free Palestine.

Good to see a DJ dancing to their own music. That’s what it’s all about, this dance music.

Gonna be brutally honest, I wasn't aware of Sama but I've been listening to all the artists playing at J2 this year and she's just jumped straight to my number one must see. The energy is fantastic, the natural groove to her track choices is spot on, the end to the set is just pure emotion ... this transcends anything I've heard recently, absolutely blown away 🖤

The poem was written by a well known palestinian poet « Mahmoud darwich » called ‘Beyrouth’ tribute to Lebanon when it had a civil war on that time.
Sama and his dad tributed Palestine and the resistance, the poem says: 1:07:06
Even if we are slaughtered on a stone, we will not leave the ditch,
Even if we are slaughtered on a stone, we won’t say yes,
From our blood to our blood the land’s limit,
from our blood to our blood the sky of your eyes, and the fields of your hands,
We’re calling you, but the echo reflects a country,
We’re calling you, but the echo reflects a cement bridge
We, the ones who standing on fire lines, declare the following:
We’re not leaving the ditch until the moon goes down,
At the beginning, we weren’t even created,
At the beginning, the talk way was,
And now on the ditch, the pregnancy signs just appeared..
(I have to read more english poems to make a more accurate translation, but it’s not that bad though)

I love how much fun SAMA have, she is very cool and interesting. I bet she is very cool and chill person to be around. I'm 40min in, and I love her energy. You can tell she is very sensitive in to every element she hears. Great sense of rhythm and awesome movements.
