My 20 Year Journey As A Bedroom Music Producer

This is the story of my 20 year progress as a bedroom music producer and how I went from a beginner musician cracking DAW software like Fruity Loops (FL Studio) on his mom's old Dell Desktop PC in the late 90s to owning his own music production studio setup with some of my dream equipment, total atmosphere, and pro-level quality making music in professional software like Logic Pro X. For most beginners, people seem to think in the moment that they won't get very far in their music career or that they'll never be able to afford the stuff they need to make their part time dreams turn into a full time profession. And even if full time isn't the goal, a lot of beginner producers and artists starting out will feel as if they'll never improve their skill level. But I'm here to tell you, and show you, that not only was I in that position but I had a very long yet meaningful progression from those humble beginnings to where I am now. So if you need some inspiration for your journey, whether you're just starting out or you are one of those people who have little hope... this is the video you need to watch.

Wow…thanks for sharing your story. I can relate with everything you said. I definitely have a ways to go Like you said, “don’t” focus on what you don’t have but “how” far you have come. Thank you for being an inspiration for beginners like myself

Love this video, it’s so real about how a music maker’s journey will progress over time and differ individually. Hopefully you take the opportunity to perform again one day bc you were hyping that crowd up with those vocals🔥

Man, thanks for the video!🙏
It's awesome to see your journey; where you came from and how far you've come

I'm not good at giving myself credit, or recognising my progress, but...YEET!!!

I remember first making beats in Music Maker Jam, on-and-off till early 2020; when I found LMMS and learned about producing.
I grinded on that software and started writing lyrics again; making millions of mistakes and outtakes.
By early 2021, I had ten demo songs (all recorded on a Blue Snowball). My voice was beyond stiff, but I improved my production/writing a lot
After over two years of making mistakes, and learning from them (with the help of channels like yours) I released my first single - Faceless - in October 2022
Almost two years after that, I released 12 projects - Singles and EPs - and got a beat tape, EP, and possible LP on the way.
My voice is still not what I want it to be, but I have improved a lot the past four years (Damn, doesn't feel that long lol)

Anyway, my backstory's done.
Thanks again for showing your past 20 years (Mad respect btw) and here's to another 20🥂

Take care, man ^-^

When I tell you the flashbacks of Windows 98, 2000, Millennium Edition and XP came to me when you took put the Dell computer, oh it just took me back! Aside from that, this was a very inspirational video you shared and you are right.

Blood, sweat and tears have got to be put in. Ain't no shortcut around wanting to achieve the goal and dream. That being said, I can definitely when it comes to working and side-hustling. I'm not in the best position but I'm definitely making sure to balance everything and crash coursing into being a better musician. It gets frustrating at times, especially when I used to play piano then... just stopped. No idea why I did but, I'm bringing that talent back. Also, I just bought a new guitar to practice with my old Casio keyboard. Those are the two major things I want to master before I buy any equipment.

IAMLXGEND, thank you for sharing this and inspiring me and everyone here to keep putting our best foot forward.

For me it started with MTV Music Generator 3 for the Playstation 2. I had friends who used Acid Pro to record vocals and one of them send me FL Studio 5 in 2005 (Fruity Loops 5). Started on a AMD computer moved up to the legendary DELL computer from 2009 till 2016, when I saved up money to build my own one. The journey has been long, and I'm NOWHERE near where I wanna be, but when I put the pictures from 2007 with 2024 along side, it's night and day!

I got rid of my bed too! 😂

Man, I can totally relate, I'm torn between working at a job that isn't music related and chasing my passion full-time. The job pays well, is a 9-5, but it's exhausting and by the end of the day, I'm physically and mentally exhausted to do anything creative.

There's also the fear that the longer I stay away from writing and producing, the more my skill level drops or at best remains at the same level.

I saw your video about getting a job again. How do you balance it? I'd appreciate any tips, thanks!
