Urban Farming in Denver, Colorado 2022

Today's video is very exciting because I get to show you an urban farm that is located at a green school! This is the ultimate farm-to-table experience for children and the community in a very populated city! I met with co-founder and Executive Director Meg Caley at the National Farmers Union Conference. Ms. Caley gracious invited me to visit her urban farm which builds educational urban farms to engage communities, strengthen neighborhood resiliency, and root farmers in the city. What an incredible tour of the farm!!! Stefan Karg the farm Program Manager graciously took me on the tour. I met Bonnie the garden cat too! Teaching school children about farming and how to grow and use the food they produce is simply amazing and incredibly encouraging!!! I hope you love the tour as much as I did!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

What a great video Kate! What a great idea to have a school next to a farm. Education is so important! I saw a professor on Dutch TV who told an interesting story about education and food. He said that if children know where the food comes from, they will make better choices about the food they will eat. They will eat healthier. There is now a project in the Netherlands where parents receive a vegetable package every week for 8 weeks. All vegetables from local farms. Babies who have just finished their mother's milk in particular get more vegetables because of the project and that appears to have a huge influence on the development of a taste. They would then eat less junk food later in life. After eight weeks they hope the parents continue with buying the healthy food. Love the cat Bonnie! What a nice idea to do some visits like this farm and the bakery in Denver. It must be awesome to go out with your mom. Greetings from the Netherlands again, in Dutch we say 'doei' (it means bye!).
