My first listen to this song was only because my sister told me the whistling sounded like my dad. Now, I can’t listen to it without crying. He passed in 2001 and it still breaks my heart every single time. His birthday would have been tomorrow and I’ll be going to his resting place to play him this song again, as I have almost every year since his passing. To me, the lyrics go over a man with too much responsibility (his children) and his addictions that ultimately lead to his death. The baby girl he talks about? That’s me, his youngest daughter, the only one that still visits him regularly. Thank you for the tears, the healing, the pain, the happiness, and everything else.
