In this video, I cover the difference between soil profile and horizon and review the characteristics of horizons O A E B C R
o = litter
a = topsoil
e = eluviated
b = subsoil
c = parent material
r = bedrock

Rather Imperical evidence reveals early taproot extending vertically downward first two years then horizontal root growth takes over by extending laterally off of taproot. Next layers of shallow & deeper horizontal roots paralleling upper grade level sporadically set their own vertical sink roots on downward search for caves & natural springs.

While multiple levels of horizontal within first several feet of soil perpously extend fibrous feeder roots from new tips striking out well past parkway sidewalks in search of much more distant soil rizosphere hunting grounds a half block away or even farther.

As older portions of maturing roots that started back nerror tree develop into structural appendages continue to increase in girth for remaining life of tree. .
