What If: 6 Iron Man Versions That Aren't Tony Stark

Howard’s son went on to become one of the greatest heroes the MCU will ever see. The man who built some of the greatest technology with nothing but a box of scraps in a cave proved to have an incredible impact on the Universe as we know it. With the new show examining alternate realities created by small decisions, we have seen a drastic change to World War 2 and who actually picked up Howard’s vibranium shield. It stands to reason that one character who had such an impact would cause significant changes in the world with any sort of decisions he would make differently, or if he was never there at all. But who else could fill the shoes of the first Avengers recruit?

We’ve already seen Steve Rogers take on some version of an armored hero. When an injury stopped him from being Captain America it was clear that his heroic spirit made him destined for greatness, even without a super-soldier serum. Howard would see to it that Steve would take on a similar mantle held to our hero. This shows us that characters who have shown us traits in alternate realities will carry those traits on. So without the golden boy, someone will fulfill his genius, and someone will absolutely fulfill some of the heroic acts he has done. However, the MCU would be greatly changed if an alternate reality saw someone else become the armored hero. After all, you can imitate but never duplicate. Who do you think could fulfill Nick Fury’s recruit in an alternate reality? And what in that reality would be significantly altered? I have made some counting and I have come to the conclusion that the marvel zombies episode in what if can’t take place prior to Ant-Man and a the wasp since Janet was confirmed to appear as a zombie. The other variables that proves this are:
-that Peter has his newer suit which he didn’t have prior to the events of Lagos.
- the cloak which was still in a glass case during the events of civil war.
So this proves it all. There was also confirmation that Cull obsidian and ebony maw would be zombies
So here’s my theory, something happened in the events of ant-man and the wasp which would start the zombie apocalypse. The heroes of earth would join together to try to stop them but one after the other fell. When Maw and obsidian eventually was sent to earth to retrieve a stone they must have gotten swarmed by zombies.

Although it's sad to realize that Bucky killed someone he might have called a friend in the past in Howard Stark, if Peggy's timeline came about, and Bucky was never turned into a Winter Soldier, some other Winter Soldier probably would've been tasked with the assassination of Howard and Maria.

Anyone can wear the Iron Man Armor just like anyone can hold Captain America's Shield, but who do you think is going to replace Tony Stark since War Machine is a soldier but not a mechanical engineer like his best friend, Iron Lad is a Variant of Kang the Conqueror and Ironheart lacks experience with her Armor made from scrap and has no resources to make new Armors and fix old ones?

Dr Doom likely would have used ine of his robot drones to redirect the nuke. He can be a anti hero. Also he could save time travel and the final snap could have been Thor or capt marvel.

I think t'challa cousin could make a great iron man with proper guidance and morals. He saved tony stark so he could be iron man in that universe. Helping out by saving his people by talking to Governments and protecting the world at the same time. Insted of invading wakanda for vibranium. His father would tell him what he needed to to to ensure their people's safety even if they do not live in wakanda. He might go over to wakanda and change his mind after talking to the black panther. His iron man suit could get a vibranium upgrade with the help of Tony and Shuri. This could be a good story.

Of Tony Stark was adopted and the only biological son of Howard Stark is Arno Stark inventor a extremis that basically makes you your smartest most beautiful self. But who knows in the MCU. Originally Hank Pim invents Ultron
