Hurricane Original video editor: Paul Moth
The original version of "Hurricane" was handed to house wizards Booka Shade and Maya Jane Coles to remix, only for those two remixes to be given their own videos which, joined together, form a continuous narrative surrounding a character called Alice and her descent into the darker side of city life. The story is told in three parts, beginning with the teaser video, which hints at what's in store, continuing with Maya Jane Coles' remix and then concluding with the Booka Shade version.
Inspired by David Lynch and what director (and one half of Pandora Drive) Thomas Knights calls "the surreal nature to his work, the bravery, and the intensity to his female characters," the video follows a young girl wandering through a bustling metropolis, feeling increasingly alienated and overwhelmed as the narrative progresses. "The edit was based on what they gave us," says Knights, "so they played an important role in dictating the pace of each video. Maya's sets up the meeting between the 2 girls; its dreamy and anxious. Booka's has a real development, sonically, and lent itself to the drug-taking moment; the 'innocence lost' that will dictate the rest of the story of our main protagonist, Alice."
