I LOVE that you bring up all theese things! I feel like the aerial culture is a bit toxic when it comes to romanticizing burns and bruises like it is something cool to collect and protecting your skin is for the weak. I believed this too when I grew up in it but now I see how useless it is to not protect yourself! But I would never have thought about the yoga mat! I am currently practicing that exact skill an I am like you say. I go into the position and my body says "no we aint doing this..." it is super frustrating 😅

Thanks for the ideas!
I’ve tried the socks with toes cut off for my elbows, and boot/leg warmers for the backs of my knees and use them all the time.
Something that people may already use but is also a staple for my training is two short ropes to hang across the bottom of the hoop and grab onto while I’m building up my resistance to the pain of hanging from my heels and backs of my knees. :)

I wear weight lifting gloves for hoop as it stops my hands tearing! I'm all about padding everywhere haha. Trapeze boots are great for foot hangs etc. Also, for training drops my instructor put a foam tube on the bottom bar - you couldn't feel a thing!

the yoga mat is an excellent idea. I use neoprene, but it's not thick enough. Thanks heaps
