Lyrics

Sue
I got the job
We'll buy the house
You'll need to rest
But now we'll make it

Sue
The clinic called
The x-ray's fine
I brought you home
I just said home

Sue, you said you want it writ
Sue, the virgin on your stone
For your grave
Why too dark to speak the words?
For, I know that you have a son
Oh, folly, Sue

Ride the train, I'm far from home
In a season of crime none need tone
I kissed your face
Sue, I've pushed you down beneath the weeds
Endless faith in hopeless deeds
I kissed your face
I touched your face

Sue, goodbye

Sue, I found your note
That you wrote last night
It can't be right
You went with him
Sue, I never dreamed
I'm such a fool
Right from the start
You went with that clown

About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

Actually, with all those jazzy sounds, chords and human made grooverider drum and bass sounds, this song is my most favourite of Bowie. Masterpiece.

Man Bowie's voice in this song is tremendously heartbreaking and beautiful. His phrasing is so excellent and reminds me of Scott Walker, another singer I really love.

with David Bowie's stuff you always know that you are having something classy. even when you are not into this or that particular song, somewhere in the back of your mind you still realize that such song is bigger then your ability to comprehend and fully accept it. there's no a single Bowie's song that appeared without the author having put some kind of concept or message into it.

He promised to never bore us, and he's kept to his word... Love it!

From an interview with Maria Schneider who arranged and co-composed the music with Bowie: "He’s a great fan of music – many kinds of music. He’s so brilliant it’s scary. He knows so much music and so many things – art and books and just everything, and he loves jazz."

I like how this version is very different from the album version!

The way he holds and bends vocal notes is breathtaking..

Bowie was always a jazz afficiando and has always used a lot of sax in his music, so it doesn't surprise me that he is digging more deeply into this classic genre.. good on ya Bowie.. slash slash

"The X-ray's fine", is the saddest line

This video is visually stunning. And as much as this song is beautiful in its dark and haunting qualities, it is still hard for me to listen to Bowie's Black Star. After all these years it is still heartbreaking for me...

I'm on a Bowie binge this week because I just saw Moonage Daydream, which I highly recommend for true Bowie fans. Had not seen this video before. Finally becoming more familiar with the work from his last album. So deeply moving to get a glimpse into his spiritual journey.

Maria Schneider's work is incredible!! So happy, as a big fan of Bowie, to see them together. That's ashame David did it at the end, it should be a complete album of David Bowie with a big band with those ideas and musical directions.

Incomparable art...voice, music, lyrics, subject-matter....dark, gritty urban love story

For those who did not realize it, this song shows Bowie's operatic training. I first realized this when I heard "candidate" from the Diamond Dog album, in which Bowie covered a full three octaves in one line of the song. I confirmed it elsewhere, but in this song, it is again obvious. A talented and well-trained singer. A pleasure to hear.

I feel like having a spiritual connection with David Bowie through his songs. Memory beyond the grave.

I love the later period of Bowies vocals. It’s almost like his voice went from being a decent pop rock vocalist in his early career to this almost like creepy lounge singer but in a great way!

I had to remind myself to breathe at around 23 seconds.  Like all the different faces on this earth, none of your songs are the same.  There is a whole universe in that beautiful head of yours.  Thank you.

I'm a versatile person when it comes to music, and I'm glad that so is David Bowie. Jazz would be one of them that I absolutely love, and I think this song is one of his best on his new album :)
