Frontier are definitely pushing the story lines along, exciting stuff!

We need better surface scanners to help locate POI's, rich deposits of materials, planetary formations and artificial structures such as alien ruins. I find it more and more frustrating that we have technology today that can scan for heat signatures, magnetic anomalies etc, but in the future we can only look out the window.

I cant believe FD resorted to giving us systems to scour when you can't even be sure you won't miss the structures from a short distance.

Expecting us to search a whole bunch of entire planets / moons with no clue as to where on the surface it is is just plain dumb. Sure they will eventually be found due to the number of players looking, but to just rely on that is to say the fun an individual player randomly flying over a planet is irrelevant. What we need is some sort of an anomaly scanner on our ships, something we could use to pin down at least a rough location. This microscopic needle in an astronomically sized hay stack thing is juts plain ridiculous.
Loved the video, though, as always.

The view of Earth was really effective in conveying the scale of the search task! Atom in a haystack truly. We'll still all give it a go though.

Thank you for keeping us up to date, Obs!

This is ridiculous! Explorers have almost no gameplay mechanics in the game and yet Frontier insists on hinging their entire story-line on this side of the game. The most undeveloped part of the game runs the story.

A planetary scanner should be implemented so that you can actually look for points of interest on a planet.

I don't even want coordinates. I want tools. Give me something that can highlight rough areas (50x50 km?) that may contain abnormalities in terrain (be it geysers, canyons, mountains or even ancient ruins) and I'll scour all 50+ of the haystacks we've been set to find those needles in.

wow, amazing video, absolutely speechless
. you have great commentary and production. enough said.

the mystery of the Guardians is unfolding in a very exciting way. Really makes me care about looking at galnet and participating in discussions on theorizing how to handle the puzzle or what could be the outcome

Asking the community to brute force search for these new ruins after dealing with crippling game bugs is insulting.

My thought was this: the large circle has 10 obelisks, and the small one has 6. Interpreting this as 10th planet, 6th moo, this applies to Synuefe XO-P c22-17. I'm also thinking that the other obelisks represent lat long coords, but not sure how.

We could use some kind of reusable probes for exploration... Drop it from orbit, it map a certain radius around where it lands and then we can grab it with the SRV. It could gave us POI in the navigation tab. It's just an idea... (Sorry if my english is bad, french canadian here!)

I think when Ram Tah said he narrowed it down to a handful of systems we just assumed the would be 1 in each of the 4 systems. But i think maybe one or two of the systems he said are red herrings

Adding gameplay depth and content - Yes please!

I have trouble finding the ruins when I have the exact coordinates, this is going to suck.

During the few hours I spent aimlessly scooting over one of these planets I decided to calculate the enormity of the task at hand. The combined area of the landable planets exceeds 4 billion square kilometres. One player travelling at 300 m/s with an effective visual range of 5 km could survey roughly 10 thousand kilometres an hour. Whilst I have no idea just how many players are actively surveying at the moment, nor how many hours of tedium it will take before they give up; even assuming an absurdly high number of 1000 players each scanning for 8 hours a day every day, will take 466 days to survey everything. I think it's somewhat safe to assume that the brute force approach is not going to work.
Whilst I applaud Frontier for continuing to add depth to their game, releasing the identities of these systems without any realistic hope of success does more harm than good I feel. Reading through the forum threads on this topic a number of players have been voicing their frustration with FDev after their glacially slow drip feed of content, frequent bugs breaking much of the new additions, and now this ridiculous 'needle in a haystack' search.
If new 'planetary survey' tools are to be introduced in the near future, save this reveal for then; or if there are already clues in the present ruins, say they exist (several people including myself have been attempting this, but for all we know we're banging our heads against a brick wall trying to find meaning in something that has none). I'm not saying we want a treasure map with X marking the spot, but a sufficiently complex puzzle is far more engaging and satisfying than the prospect currently presented to us. Alienating your fan base with an almost insulting task such as this is not the way to go

I spent about 100 hours searching for the barnacles, after the first 10 hours it became the most tedious thing I've ever done in a game, but I carried on out of love for the game.
That love has faded a lot recently, no way in hell I'm taking part in that crap again.

Ram Tah should have given us a scanner update which can pinpoint the energy signature from ancient ruins from low orbit, needles in haystacks springs to mind with this and I am sure the guys at FD know what sort of levels of dedication it took just to find the first site. They did create a one to one scale milky way and what they are asking for with this and no tools to help is a bit shit.
Dont get me wrong I dont want it handed on a plate but just some tools to help would be nice and a scanner update would fit the story nicely
