Remember that safety of the meat is based on temperature AND time. 170 might kill the bacteria in a second, but 150 will still kill the bacteria after a few minutes of rest, and hopefully not dry out your meat.

it is unsafe to place the thermometer all the way to the bone as the bone will give a false reading
