When we heard that Panda Bear (aka Noah Lennox) was touring with a full band for the first time in more than 25 years of releasing music as a solo artist, we knew we had to (finally) get him in for a Tiny Desk.

Recreating his beautifully experimental studio work for a live setting was never easy to do alone, not without a lot of pre-recorded loops and backing tracks. But here Panda Bear's wondrous music comes to life with the help of four additional friends on bass, drums and electronics. Most importantly, they also provide the sweet, multi-layered harmonies fans have long loved in Panda Bear's recorded work.

The group largely focuses on Panda Bear's new album, Sinister Grift, opening with the glittery and wistful "Ferry Lady," followed by "Defense," a track Lennox originally recorded as a duet with Cindy Lee. They close with "Song for Ariel," a relatively deep cut that was the original prototype for Animal Collective's "Guys Eyes" from the 2009 album Merriweather Post Pavilion.

I love that after a decade of heading Pandas voice with effects on we get a raw live set like this. He’s really giving back to the fans, also I can’t believe he did
The musicians are all good in their own groups as well if you haven’t heard them.

Sinister Grift so far is the album that I have listened to the most this year according to Apple Music. Can't see it being any different at the end of the year. Yet another gem of an album by Noah. The man has like 4 solo classics. That's 9 with the Animal Collective ones. Not too shabby of a career. Amazing.

This was beautiful. The singing was really great and i loved these versions of the songs! Just wish they played one or two more songs from the new album. (Although this might be my favorite version of Song for Ariel so that was a treat)

What a great year to be Panda's fan! I've seen him live in february and it was AMAZING, after that he released Sinister Grift and I got addicted to this album, and now this NPR performance <3 <3 thanks Noah
