There were some surprising role changes and some familiar faces brought over from the film. In the film, Stephen R. Hart played Brother Jeremiah, and he came back to reprise the role in this series. Harry Shum Jr and Matthew Daddario both auditioned for Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood in the film, City of Bones. As for the series, Matthew Daddario auditioned for the role of Jace, but after the author saw his audition, she said that he would be better for Alec, and he took the role. Alyssa Veniece who plays a werewolf named Justine was also a werewolf in City of Bones as well. David Castro also auditioned for the role of Jace before Dominic Sherwood got the part.

I thought Matthew Daddario auditioned for the role for Jace for the movie in addition to auditioning for the same role in the TV show years later. He never auditioned for Alec for the movie.

Dominque looks like a 30 year old. I wish they kept it more faithful to the books. Magnus was perfect and Alec was perfect

The casting for Raphael was incorrect in both the movie and the show. Raphael had the appearance of a skinny child cause he was turned at 15. But they casted a grown man for the role which i didn't understand.

Honestly, I didn't like the way Raphael was portrayed - nothing to do with the actor, and the mannerisms were perfect, its literally just that book Raphael is meant to look like this angel, this 14/15 year old delicate innocent, who was born with the soul of an eighty year old man.
