Meet Dr. Shirley Tsunoda- Liver Transplant Pharmacist

Dr. Tsunoda is a Health Sciences Clinical Professor of Pharmacy and a Liver Transplant Pharmacist. In this video, Dr. Tsunoda explained the crucial role that a transplant pharmacist plays on the transplant team. The transplant team is an interdisciplinary practice where it consists of hepatologists, surgeons, transplant pharmacists, social workers, nurse practitioners, dietitians, and more all in the care of the patient. The transplant pharmacist is responsible to manage and monitor immunosuppressive medications to ensure there is neither rejection nor infection in the patient. On top of it, the transplant pharmacist also has to manage and counsel the patients on other medications such as anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, anti-dyslipidemia, and more.
