Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has issued a special permit to allow Nibi the beaver to remain at the Newhouse Wildlife Rescue where she's been living since being saved two years ago, after the facility had said she would be released back into the wild. News of the governor's permit came during NBC’s Joe Fryer interview with Nibi's caretaker!

What this story did not tell is that Jane has already rescued, rehabbed, and released hundreds of animals back into the wild. She tried to do the same with Nibi, but Nibi had been orphaned too young to gain critical survival skills. Please support Newhouse Wildlife Rescue, or your own local wildlife rehabilitator.

Oh my god how cute this beaver is. I feel so sorry for all the poor beavers that were killed in America just to make fur hats - that was so insanely cruel. Thank god for some sense in this governor - she did the right thing. This animal needs to stay in her surroundings and with the people that love her. She is used to them and for sure she sees them as her family. I am usually all for animal freedom, being vegan and all, but this is a case where the animal needs to be free in a safe place meaning with her wonderful caretakers and not to some far away river where she might die not being able to fend for herself or make a home, and will approach humans or maybe a disgusting hunter. Long live Nibi!

I’m so glad Nibi gets to stay. I think it’s cold and cruel that they wanted her released knowing she wouldn’t survive in the wild. She’s a wild life rehabber, if Nibi could have been released safely she would have done it already.

Why should it be so 'wonderful' when some bureaucrat
"allows" a perfectly reasonable situation to simply exist

A lady who ran a rehab facility in VT was threatened with her blind, elderly squirrel being euthanized because she couldn't be released. The VT governor hounded this poor lady into moving to another state to save her beloved squirrel's life. Disabled animals have the right to life, just like handicapped people do!

Governor's decision.😔

Nibi does not have the social skills to be with other beavers. I think she would die within 3 to 4 months or less if released into the wild.

What a disgusting, pandering action by a politician.
