Surely the best way to 'stop the boats' is to broadcast across the world that the UK is the second most depressing place in the world to live. Sri Lanka is one of the happiest places. I have been there. It's lovely.

And no one will receive £3000. These are normally undocumented people, with many times, no money, no bank account. What are the mechanics of this? Will each adult be handed a brown bag stuffed with 50 pound notes? Will back accounts be created for each person? Are they all going be placed on the benefits scheme and the BoE will generate 3k per person out of the blue? This is all a words game that will never materialise or work.
